howdy folks
things are a little up and down over here, projects being proposed, projects being cancelled…..i feel slightly ill at ease. but i’m sure it will pass. here’s what’s going on:
our show from may 6 2007 at the wise hall is being broadcast on cbc 2 next saturday, oct 27, at 9pm. or you can go toconcerts on demand and listen whenever you want. i forgot to ask them to take off a few trainwrecks, but i hope you are forgiving. it was a fun night. the fits will be up later in the season, they’re holding them hostage at the moment.
i forgot to mention that there’s a little interview with me here on z recommends about good ol duplex.
me and the gang from theatre replacement are making a record of the songs from yufo next week, that ought to be some fun. expect that early next year, along with the 2 or 3 other releases i have planned. crazy.
vancouverites, don’t forget that we’re playing 1067 with fond of tigers and sandro perri, also on the 27 of october. there’s a map to the venue (it’s semi-secret) on the fond of tigers site.
the fits are playing in the afternoon! of november 18 at the railway club, at a great show in support of insite, the safe injection site here in dirty old vancouver. safety first.
okays, i got to have some breakfast and get downtown. more soon i’m sure. xv
oh, i’m in this issue of the vancouver review, although the article isn’t up on their site yet, because of course they want you to buy the magazine. should have a nice photo, my pal mark mushet is the creative director and has taken some of my faves of me. that’s an awkward sentence.
Thanks for the link to interview, Veda. Very nice to read. Gave me some thoughts about not being stressed and irritated (sometimes) when being with my two lovely daugthers! Oh, I long for January…
Who dareth to cancel a Veda project? Grrr… There is no end to crimes against human kind…?
Fortunately, there will be plenty of Veda releases in 2008. 2007 was an excellent Veda year!
Other than that, cool interview on Duplex…!
Take care, Veda, and have a great weekend!
Veda! Are you planning to rule the world?!?!? I have no words to describe how perfect is this concert from may 6 2007!!! It is just… Wow!!!!! GREAT GREAT!!! Riot Life, let it come!!!
Wow, I have no heard the show four times and it is absolutely wonderful. Where on earth do you find all those fantastic songs and arrangements?
well, i’m so glad you like it. it’s a little hint of what the record is like. such great players, hey? and we all took turns writing those arrangements.
This is where the concert is:

Veda, I could never say “hey, this is my favourite Veda album”. I think I might have a winner, finally.
“Oh, Come On” is overwhelming.
“Book of Saints” is flawless.
“Laboratory” is beyond words!
And there is absolute no mistake with Paul Hindemith!
Thank you!
By the way, my younger sister was remarking on how clear your voice is live.
Fantastic live show – and I have only just played Ace – twice – ooh wow 🙂
thanks CBC – thanks Veda and the great band!
After listening to the concert many times, I realized that some of the best songs of the bunch (“Oh, Come On”, “Book of the Saints” and “God kissed my lips in a dream” a.k.a. “Ace of Nazerene”) just reinforce the idea that all music styles can be good and art-y.
Veda created three great art-songs out of three would-be Christian Rock pieces.
The coolest part she doesn’t do it because she is particularly religous nor to shock, to be critical, to show angst or because she has an agenda against Religion: she made those songs, because she saw potential to create melodic art-songs.
Her goal was the art itself, and the beauty of it — and she accomplished it.
Thanks, Veda. Your music is too much for me, sometimes.
Looking forward to listening to Riot Life.
Take care,
Raff
