the pop oracle

oh, the first free saturday morning i’ve had in about 7 weeks. we made vegan pear ginger pancakes, i had a cinnamon coffee, and had little jumpy feelings of something like….relaxed happiness? very nice.

thanks so much for the orders for riot life that are literally pouring in. i will be sending out the first round on monday, after our rocking party on sunday night. i’m going to buy the most indulgent amount of tulips that i can afford, to decorate the hall. i’ll make sure we have some posted photos soon too. and for all those outside of vancouver, you can have a listen to a radio show that i taped last week with my friend andras jones. it’s called radio 8 ball, and it uses music as a divination tool. it’s so totally westcoast, i love it. i’ll be doing a live version of that in seattle on march 13. gosh, that’s next week. the wheel turns round again.

  1. I hope sales become so overwhelming that you are forced to hire someone to do the posting for you and you can’t send notes anymore;-).

    Much success!

“You can’t accuse Vancouver composer/performer Hille of following the trends. Here’s a brilliant disc that uses a small orchestra featuring strings, brass and wind, along with a rhythm section of alternative players and notables, including guitarist Ford Pier and violinist Jesse Zubat. The lyrics are largely taken from old hymns, including one made up of different first lines of several hymns. Her divine voice has the aching quality of Carly Simon, as if delivered by Jane Siberry. It is a spectacular and beautiful creation, from start to finish. Hille is best known as a musical theatre composer, yet these are not showboat spectacles. Rather, they are individual performance pieces, each one with a unique arrangement featuring different elements of the mini-orchestra. The Moon is a percussive, dissonant number with a modern classical structure. Ace Of The Nazerene is an alternative rocker that kicks the butts of most bands. As for the words, don’t forget that your Bible includes some of the scariest and most powerful passages around, as well as the most comforting, and Hille’s music and performance match each hymn”.
