hello friends! Â i am happy to say that my son anders hille kellam was born on september 23, a healthy 6 1/2 pound boy with lots of hair, dark eyes, and an ability to make a sound like a baby eagle. Â we are all doing well, even nucat who has been displaced from his baby-like position in the family. Â
this of course was the reason that i had to cut down on touring this year, Â so i am pleased to finally be able to let you know that i have not been ill, i was just in the mothering way. Â and he was worth all the caution, believe me. Â just look at his little philosopher’s face! Â same birthday as coltrane, ray charles, and bruce springsteen, by the by.
i’ll try to keep up with posts, but my hands are often full at the moment. Â i’m sure you understand. Â
til next, xx veda

You know, dear Veda (& Nick & also Anders), I think I figured this from the get-go. Even dropped a hint in a post below.
I am very happy for all of you!
Wish Anders health & happiness! If he gets half of the musical talent of his parents, he will rock the world:-).
Be well, all of you!
Raff
Congratulations to you all! Including nucat.
Hi Veda!
I’m happy to hear this amazing new!!!
Enjoy the miracle of motherhood, we are al very happy for you.
Best wishes for you and the family,
Ricardo
This is so awesome! Congratulations!! (I’ll hush now ’cause my exclamation marks might wake up the baby)
My thoughts were with you the past couple of weeks, I figured Anders would be due somewhere late September. He’s absolutely stunning. And next to Coltrane and Springsteen, the 23rd is also my father’s birthday 😀
Lots of love and happiness from Amsterdam.
Ah yes, the baby eagle noise. I remember it well – we described it as “pterodactyl” (although who knows, pterodactyls may have actually made soft purring noises or beeped a little tune like a Nokia handset).
Two weeks in, you already know the truth, the bit they don’t tell you in ante-natal classes, the undisclosed punchline – parenthood is utterly, utterly terrifying. But don’t worry, that emotion will eventually evolve into exhaustion and poverty, punctuated by periods of blind fury.
It’s the best thing you will ever do. Love and congratulations.
Oh, one more thing: Know when to stop…
Oh, and another: You know when Anders wakes up crying for the fifth time in the middle of the night and Justin is lying next to you, profoundly asleep, deeply unconscious, absolutely and completely unrousable: He’s pretending.
Oh, and another:
Coltrane?
Robbie Coltrane??
As in Hagrid???
Lots of hair and dark eyes are all well and good but….
Hey Veda, big congratulations! Last time I ran into you on the Drive you were very pregnant, so glad your baby has arrived! Wishing you sleep and happiness in this new baby-phase!

Yay baby! we’ve got a 14-month-old here, so I have a bit of that special kind of knowing I expect you’re experiencing now–all the wildness that no cliche can prime you for. Congratulations on your new little feller 🙂

Oh my goodness – congratulations! Anders will grow up listening to the most amazing lullabies to guide ehis wise little brain into amazing new thoughts. I am smiling for you.
Veda – Hi and late congratulations on the birth of Anders – this must be the secret news that nearly everyone knew – even as far away as I am still a couple of people had told me you were pregnant – one of them was Christine Fellows (I like to write that as if she and I are often chatting – not true – just the once after her first London UK performance) – she said “Oh you know Veda couldn’t come to London because she’s having a baybee!”. Excellent! Love and Best wishes from the UK!
