Veda Hille

hi there! we’ve been experiencing a little computer trouble here at hille inc., hence the blogsilence. a new power cable should be saving my life fairly soon.

but some nice cbc news:  the glenn gould evening that i was part of last year, titled Idea of North, has won a prize.  in new york!  the Bronze World Medal for Best Music Special at the New York Festivals International Radio Awards.  congrats in particular to caitlin crockard and alan neal for putting it together.  

and also, as raff kindly pointed out in comments, the cbc radio orchestra Canadian Songbook Two is finally up online.  right here. this is where we have ndidi onukwulu singing bto, michel rivard singing his own great songs, and myself gently attacking neil young. i get all choked up when we do hallelujah at the end too, not for our singing but for the audience’s contribution at the close. all hail the canada’s orchestra!

and tomorrow i’m off with the band to sing at toronto pride, which should be a fine time.  we’ll be accompanying ivan coyote, as well as doing our own set.  all at 6pm at the corner of carlton and church.  i’ve got to get my hair cut today, in order to look just a little more fabulous.  xv

exciting news people:  this riot life has made it onto the Long List for the polaris prize!  alongside some of my very favorite records from last year as well.  go to that link to see the exalted company.  i’m totally chuffed.

in other events, you can watch some pretty amazing footage of a beluga whale giving birth at the vancouver aquarium just a few days ago. right here. a bit bloody of course, but exciting. they had quite an audience as well.

howdy there folksens.  at last, a few tour photos!  taken by henning rechs in stuttgart, at our show at laboratorium.  a really fun night among many.  there we have p kleinenstein, and then me being a deer, and martin and skye doing their concentrated thing.  i have yet to get my own photos out of the camera, but soon i will make a page devoted to our off-day zoo tours.  see patsy klein with many exotic animals!  

in other news, the word from ape is that those bonus tracks are NOT going to be on itunes after all.  they are working on a special download situation from the ape page itself.  i don’t have a release date yet, but of course i will alert you when i know.  same with the video for laboratory.

oh, the heavy rain has started here in vancouver town.  quite the coldest june that i can remember.  i’m having the urge to make lasagna and fruit crumble, usually dishes reserved for the fall.  of course, aside from cooking i’m down at the magnetic north/hive2 festival every night, where a bunch of bands of my own choice are playing.  577 Great Northern Way in vancouver, good theatre and music every night this week from tuesday thru saturday.  including the triumphant homecoming of No Kids, playing thursday!  i’m picking them up at the airport today, can’t wait to see their road-addled faces.

what else?  getting ready for my last gig of the summer, playing at toronto pride on june 28 with the band.  the band being patsy, barry, ford, shaun brodie, and scott malin this time around.  maybe that’s when i’ll see some sun.  til next,    xv
