stumbling along

this is one of my favorite photos. matthew alexander henson was a member of the peary expedition, and may have been the actual discoverer of the north pole. and just look at that face. where the heck is he, a cave made of cotton whisps?

at the lamplighter on monday there was a band called no gold that i really liked. nice to see the kids kicking it up to the old talking heads style african pop.

site stuff appears to be getting better, thanks to weston’s work. he thinks he’s figured out the ordering problem, which is always hard with intermittent problems but i think we’re back on track. and the other problems were just my failings in the language of html. i always try to put punctuation where there should be no punctuation. anyway, to celebrate figuring that out, here’s a demo version of cowper’s folly. the album version has worked out well, but i continue to have a fondness for this demo. particularly the way we made larissa and patsy (the other singers) sound like tiny little compressed birds. from another century. stopgap sales solution

well, the website problems have not been solved yet. so, for now if you want to buy some records, i suggest we resort to a simpler more communicative method. email me at payment@vedahille.com, let me know what you want, i’ll send you a paypal invoice, and will then fire off a nice package of music to you. easy peasy, right? if you don’t get a response from me within 3 days, send again.

and of course, there is always the old fashioned style of sending a cheque to my postbox with a letter. that’s always nice to receive. box 4763, vancouver bc, V6B 4A4, canada.

ok, i’m going back into the studio today after a short break. til next xv (Continued)

shows

in replacement for the missing chapel gig, me and the band are going to play the lamplighter with azeda booth on monday july 23. this is the day after mix, so i’m looking forward to rocking out. and speaking of music, another band i really like right now is art af oryx. i hope we’ll be playing with them in berlin next spring.

other upcoming gigs: the fits play with geoff berner on saturday sept 15 at the railway club. i’ll be in ottawa september 28 playing a tribute to glenn gould. right after that i’ll probably do a few things in toronto. oh, and on august 17 ida is throwing a goodbye party for herself at the railway. we are losing her to the big smoke, which is a tragedy for vancouver and a victory for toronto. the fits will play, i will play, fond of tigers, and more.

i’ll update the tour page shortly. see you soon! (Continued)

and july

hallo folks. due to some misadventures with publicity timing the chapel show has been cancelled, alas. but you can still go see azeda booth at the railway club on july 22. i hope to be there, downing a celebratory martini after finishing the mix for This Riot Life. we start on monday, i’m very excited. and as colin sets up the songs every day i’ll be working on the prize ribbons. i’ll mail out the first round of life support packages at the end of the month.

what else? i’ve just finished a film with ivan coyote called The Love That Won’t Shut Up. it’s about queer history in vancouver, and was commissioned by Out On Screen, our gay film fest. the film will play at the Vancity Theatre on august 24th, and ivan and i will both perform at the screening. another OOS event: John Cameron Mitchell is coming!!! I’m very excited, and hope to meet him.

what else? (or: Why Haven’t I Been Posting?) i’m working with the leaky heaven circus on a show about cannibalism, i just made a pilot/pitch to host a cbc show about cabaret, there’s an opera in the offing, i’m making music for some ice dancing choreographed by jennifer mascall, and the fits have learned the Tom Lehrer song the elements. oh, and i’m reading the new annie dillard book the maytrees. she slays me.

and a few days ago, we wrangled 4 guinea pigs out of our back yard. it’s non-stop adventure around here folks. i better get out of the computer room and see what’s going on now. xx v (Continued)
